Biosecurity plan

One of the projects identified in the Ythan Fishery Management Plan 2011 – 2015 was the production of a bio-security plan for the Ythan Salmon Fishery District.

The Scottish Government awarded the River Ythan Trust, diagnosis through the Rivers and Fisheries Trusts of Scotland, funding in the financial year 2011 / 2012 to support the production of this plan.

The plan was written in early 2012 and a draft version was published for public consultation and review.  A final plan was then published in May 2012.  The plan looks at the issues associated with non-native invasive species, which can spread very quickly through a river system and cause great damage to our native flora and fauna.

The River Ythan Trust thanks RAFTS for their valuable assistance with compiling this plan. Thanks are also due to the Ellon Biodiversity Action Group (EBAG), Marine Scotland Science (MSS), North East Scotland Biological Records Centre (NESBReC), the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA), Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) and the general public for their responses to the consultation process.

You can download the final plan below as well as the consultation responses that we received.
